She'll have to believe the unbelievable to survive. The doctors have told Kay that she will die before she reaches her eighteenth birthday. Her mother’s determination to save her life leads them to a move outside of Asheville, NC to a new set of cancer specialists in the hopes to help her. But it’s not what Kay and her Mom find in the doctor’s offices in Asheville that lead them on the journey to save her before time runs out. It’s what Kay finds in the woods outside of Asheville, and an inhumanly gorgeous guy named Ryan, instead. Myths and fairy tales come to life before Kay’s eyes, bringing her closer to the ultimate cure if she can stay alive long enough to get there. And if the cancer doesn’t kill her before she finds the cure the secrets her mother has hidden from her may be the beginning of the end. Can she reach her destiny before tragedy strikes?

Excerpt

All I could think was that if I concentrated on cleaning his gash then maybe I wouldn’t make myself look like an idiot anymore. The concentrating helped because I could just feel his eyes on me. I wanted to ask him what he was thinking, or why he was staring, but I thought it was better to just stay quiet and clean his arm. I worked quickly and when I was done I looked up into his face with a somewhat steely determination not to make an ass out of myself anymore today. “Hey, you think you can handle it if we clean it off with alcohol. I bet it’s going to sting like a bitch, but I’m afraid it might get infected if we don’t.”

“Yeah, that’s fine.” He said as he concentrated on my face.

“Are you sure? Because a cut like that, I bet it’s going to hurt. Like hurt a lot.” I inwardly debated if he was trying to be brave, or if he was nuts enough that he just didn’t care. My bet was nuts.

Ryan put on a confident face and said, “I think I can handle it. But if it makes you feel any better I promise I won’t scream like a little girl.” Well at least I could go get the alcohol without feeling like I hadn’t warned him properly. “Ok, wait here. I’ll go get the alcohol out of the bathroom, and I’ll be right back.” I headed out of the kitchen and turned right down the hall towards that bathroom. I snagged it out from underneath the bathroom sink cabinet and hurried back to the kitchen because some part of my brain still couldn’t believe that there was an exceptionally hot half naked guy in my kitchen. But sure enough I rounded the corner and he was still standing there waiting for me. “So, do you want me to like pat it on with the rag or…”

“No just pour it straight into the wound. That’s the best way to avoid any infection.” And with that comment he positioned his arm over the sink so that we wouldn’t make a mess. I just shook my head. He really was nuts.

“I’m betting twenty bucks you scream like a girl.” I chided.

“And I’m betting a date with you that I won’t scream like a girl.” He stared intently at my shocked face with a cocky little grin as I absorbed his comment in.

“Ok.” Really? I thought to myself. That’s all you can come up with is ‘ok’? He’ll think you’re oh so smooth now. In fact, I’m sure I just won the ‘smooth award’ somewhere.

I shook my head and gingerly started to pour the alcohol into the gash that ran nearly from his shoulder to right above his elbow. As I braced myself for the scream that I was sure he had coming, when the alcohol hit his wound he gasped from the pain and then snapped his jaw shut. His face became clenched and contorted from pain and his entire body literally locked up in a spasm of sorts. Jerking the bottle upright and setting it on the kitchen counter; I stared into his distorted face. He was in so much pain that I had absolutely no idea how he was not screaming. His body shuddered and then I saw where there were beads of sweat on his forehead that started trickling down his face.

I inadvertently took a step back from him afraid that he was going to crack and instead of screaming throw a punch or something. Then the strangest thing happened; I felt a blast of hot air that was strong enough to lift my hair a little as if it was in a breeze and then there was a rich smell of some kind of flowers I couldn’t identify that practically engulfed my senses. My body started tingling in response to something, and I felt a flash of heat ripple through me. Then as quickly as it had started, it was over. I looked around my house somewhat wildly for a minute trying to figure out what just happened. “What was that? Ryan did you feel that?”

“Feel what Kay? The alcohol burning the crap out of my arm. Yes, I most certainly felt that.” He was looking at me somewhat analytically, and I thought that maybe he was thinking that I belonged in the loony farm or something.

I was seriously going to have to reread the side effects of that new medication I was on. Maybe I was having hallucinations? But it felt so real. In fact, my body was still humming with something that I couldn’t place.

“Right, you’re right. It must have been the heater coming on or something. I just wonder when my mom got that smelly thing. It has such a strong smell of some kind of flower.” I started scanning the wall outlets for an air freshener plug in and then the counters for some kind of new smelly candle. Nothing. There had to be an explanation for it. The hot air came on and hit whatever air freshener Mom had put out, right?

“Kay, are you all right?” The way Ryan was watching me now I was obviously never getting that date. What a freak he must think I am.

“Yeah, yeah. I’m fine. Sorry, I guess I’m a little out of it today. How’s your arm? I guess we should wrap it up now.” I reached for the ace bandage and shook my head to clear the crazy fog that was still in there. I glanced up into Ryan’s face before I touched his arm just to make sure that he was ok with me trying to take care of him.

He must want me to stand, like, fifty feet back so he didn’t catch my crazy.

Author Bio:

Jessie Lane is the writing team of Crystal Leo and Melissa Pahl. The two sister-in-laws share a great love of breathtaking romance, cliff hanging suspense, and out-of-this-world characters that demand your attention or threaten to slap you around until you do pay attention to them. Because really, it is ALL about the characters. (They’re kind of megalomaniacs)

When not losing themselves in a story, they remember they have real lives. Crystal lives in Kentucky with her husband and two little girls who plot daily the many ways they can drive their poor mother crazy. At the end of the day, Crystal calls Melissa and threatens to ship her two nieces to their favorite Aunt with lots of air holes punched through their box. Melissa answers Crystal’s crazed calls in Washington state where she lives with her husband and big furry baby of a Rottweiler named Yuffie, and reminds her that children are not shippable.

This is their first novel, but they are all geared up and excited to be releasing other projects soon!

The forces of nature are disrupted. Earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions rake the world. The Goddesses go to war and summon all their Shifters to join in the conflict. Jatred and Jasmira fight not only for their star-crossed love but to protect the future of both Races and humankind.

Feature and Follow #4

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee’s View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

Q: What blogger inspires you? It can be any kind, it doesn’t have to be a book blog.

A: I have a few, one being Rachel @ Parajunkee - I was brand new had no idea where to begin and her blogging 101 was such a tremondous help. Then There is Danielle @ Romance Book Junkies, she was also a great big help when I first started, she was so kind when I had tons of questions early on. Then there is Jackie @ Housewife Blues and Chihuahua Stories, who was also so sweet, funny and helpful. Then there is Tynga Reviews, her blog is just so much fun. As well As Carmel @ Rabid Reads. I could just go on, if I missed someone I'm sorry just I would be here all night if I listed all that inspire me. Sorry for the long post I just couldn't just pick one.

Topic Thursday: How big has your book shelves, ereaders grown since starting your blog?

I was wondering if I just went totally out of control since I started my blog? I know when I started I had one bookshelf almost full, now I have books everywhere, under my bed , shelves triple stacked. And now with my Kindle I have almost 400 books on there. It's insane. I would need to read 24 hours away for months to read all I have.

So how about you? Are your shelves overflowing like mine, are you running out of room and for those with a Kindle or any ereader how much have you added to that?

Maybe we should start a book addiction or more like book buy addiction club.

"I tried not to sound hysterical, but it’s not every day you find out the paranormal is hunting you."

What if everything you believed was a lie?

A Suicide

Seventeen year old Allison Maney attends Millennium High School in Manhattan. Nothing out of the ordinary, unless you consider the occasional suicides at the school. At least that is what everyone is told, what everyone believes. But Tommy Bachelor was a popular football player; why would he jump off the roof of the school?

Dangerous Liaisons

When Dameon pays attention to Ali, she couldn't be more excited, because for the past three months he was all she could think about. But now that Dameon is finally pining for her affections, she is becoming more and more wrapped up in a clique of three who, as new transfers to the school, are proving to be trouble. But at least Dameon loves her, doesn't he?

A Soul Purpose

The underworld of angels and demons have one thing on their mind: Earth. Demons want to do what they want. Angels want to protect humans from these rogue angels, AKA: Demons

A Suspenseful Romance

Caught between Dameon and Kian, the suicide and the clique of three, Ali won't know who to trust…or who to love, because for Allison Maney, everything i not exactly what it seems.

Book 1 in the AngelFire Chronicles:
1-SHE SPEAKS TO ANGELS
2-FALLING ANGELS
3-ANGEL CODES

Review:
This book starts off with a sad note, a suicide. Which leads three teenage girls wanting to investigate, Why would a popular boy kill himself? The more they dig the more trouble finds at least one of the girls Allison (Ali). And while that is all going on, the boy Ali has had a crush on since he arrived at school is suddenly paying lots of attention to her. Then three new students arrive and they seem like they are trouble or so she thinks.

I have to say I loved this book from the first page. I connected with Ali almost instantaneously and it was a wild ride from the starting gate. And I have to admit I liked Dameon too at first but then came Kian. I can't blame the girl for being confused.

Honestly I couldn't read this book fast enough I just kept wanting to know more, how it was going to end and everything in between. I loved the story-line, the uniqueness of how angels and demons were made as well as if they broke the rules, what would happen if they do.

This was a fantastic read, I definitely will be reading the next book, Falling Angels when it comes out. So if you are a lover of Angels and Demons with a unique twist to it(at least for me it was) then I highly recommend you read this book.

As a sixteen year old voodoo queen in the making, Joan Renault just wants to be like all the other girls in the small town of Monte Parish, Louisiana—obsessed with boys and swamped with social lives. If the other kids would quit calling her “hoodoo hag,” she might have a small shot at normality. It would also help if Joan’s weekend outings with her secret crush, Dave, weren’t always being interrupted by her dead Grandmere, the legendary Marie Laveau. After all, it’s hard to make out with your best friend when your grandmother is watching! But when you come from a long line of voodoo priestesses with dried gator heads decorating the wall of their huts, normal doesn’t come easily.

When Joan witnesses the brutal sacrifice of a child to a tree Druid, she learns her Grandmere’s scandalous past has come back to haunt those living in the present. Hera, a vengeful voodoo priestess is determined to use the residual energy of Pandora’s Box to revive a sleeping voodoo god and declare war on the descendants of Marie Laveau, especially Joan. Suddenly, Greek myths are being re-enacted all over town, and Joan has her hands full trying to sort it all out. With the approach of Samedi’s Day—the voodoo day of resurrection—Joan must learn to accept her destiny in order to stop the approaching threat to her family and friends.

Review:
As many of you know I am a huge fan of Mythology, so I couldn't wait to dive into this book. Not only does this book have Greek Mythology but it mixes it with Voodoo and it blew me away. I totally became engrossed in this storyline, so much so I didn't want to take time to eat and prayed my Kindle's battery would hold out so I could finish it. I read this none stop and I still want more.

Joan is a typical sixteen year old for the exception that her Grandmere is none other than Marie Laveau. Which I found totally fascinating. I have heard the myth's regarding Marie Laveau but never read a book with her in it and I just couldn't get enough. Even when the author mixed Greek and Voodoo, I thought I might have gotten lost but I didn't. She did a fantastic job weaving the myths together.

The characters were well written and the story flowed well. There was a lot of twists and turns in this book as well, which is another thing I love when I am reading a book. I can't figure what is going to happen next.

I have nothing bad to say about this book, I loved every minute of it just wish it didn't end. I will definitely read more from this author. I hope maybe we might see more of Joan, Dave and the rest of the characters in the future.

The Mers:
What lies beneath the surface?
One hundred years from now the world has
changed and brought with it new forms of life.
Who are the Mers? Who is Mira?

“I am not a Mer,” A simple but profound statement that changes Mira’s life forever. She always knew she was different. She never quite fit in with the Mers. However, when her quest to understand her past leads her across the border that divides two vastly different worlds, she thinks the journey to find out who she really is will be an easy one.

But, in Jersey she finds more questions than answers. The “Garden State” has become a convoluted mix of Aristocrats who hate the Mers, Pirates who want to sell them, and Magi who want to use them, finding her true identity will be a challenge, especially when her traveling companion is a Mer willing to fight to the death.

Book 1 in the Mer Chronicles:
1-THE MERS
2-ETHAN'S EMPIRE
3-MIRA RISING

Review:
I honestly think I have read only one Dystopian book and a handful with mermaids in them but not as a main character. What I found intriguing with this book was the unique world building this author created. We have the Mers who hate humans, humans who hate the Mers then there are several types of humans, Aristos, Commoners(who are really low on the totem pole), Magi's and even Pirates. The fact all of this takes place in or around Jersey makes me smile.

Mira, who all her life has lived as Mer but was different and wanted to know why, so she sets out for where she isn't allowed to go, due to a truce called between the Humans and the Mers. Her boyfriend and his little sister tag along. But she ends up more confused than ever until she finally finds out the truth.

The book started off a bit slow but soon picked up once they were in Jersey. Then it was non stop action with a touch of sweet romance. It also had a couple surprising moments that I didn't see coming. I do have to say though the ending I was a bit confused about not so much for the story as to where and how Ethan is going to be in the future. I know she was setting up for the next installment, I just I don't know if he is going to be good or bad. I surely hope its not the latter. I really liked him.

Overall this book was far different than I been reading and I did enjoy it. I am looking forward to see what the next book has to offer. Would I recommend yes, if you love YA Paranormal with a Dystopian twist then this book is for you.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee’s View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

Q: Do your reading habits change based on your mood? Do you read a certain genre if you are feeling depressed or happy?

A: I have to say yes, when I am depressed or sad I tend to go to one of my favorite author's, like Sherrilyn Kenyon, J.R. Ward, Gena Showalter, Alyssa Day, Larissa Ione or Donna Grant (this answer would change once I read more YA). If I am happy I tend to grab anything new or something different out of my norm.

Seventeen-year-old Riley, the only daughter of legendary Demon Trapper, Paul Blackthorne, has always dreamed of following in her father's footsteps. When she’s not keeping up with her homework or trying to manage her growing crush on fellow apprentice, Simon, Riley’s out saving distressed citizens from foul-mouthed little devils – Grade One Hellspawn only, of course, per the strict rules of the Guild. Life’s about as normal as can be for the average demon-trapping teen.

But then a Grade Five Geo-Fiend crashes Riley’s routine assignment at a library, jeopardizing her life and her chosen livelihood. And, as if that wasn’t bad enough, sudden tragedy strikes the Trappers’ Guild, spinning Riley down a more dangerous path than she ever could have imagined. As her whole world crashes down around her, who can Riley trust with her heart – and her life?
