a Rafflecopter giveaway
Now with school starting or have started, do you find you have more time to read or less time to read?
I myself, with my son being a teenager I have usually more time than when he was younger. I just wish he read more. Anyone have suggestions for a 15 year old that does not like to read? What could peek his interest? I would appreciate any and all suggestions. He is not a sports lover( a little football but doesn't play) he is a gamer.

Well, I'm sure many people including yourself are familiar with it, but The Hunger Games series might be interesting to him. I'm 16 and there's a lot of people my age who love the series. Even my 19 year old sister who doesn't like reading at all, her friends made her read the books, and she actually likes them. Maybe he'll like it! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, he did pick it up once but didn't even start it. I keep telling him he would like it.
DeleteI think his problem is the size of the book intimidates him. Not enough patience.
He did though get a fictional book about Vietnam about 3 friends( I read it and its good) it wasn't huge(or a least to him anyway) but he started but didn't finish it.
I just don't know what to do to get him interested in reading.
For guys, I've always thought that that age squished between Middle Grade books and the more truly YA books is hard to satisfy O_O. Do you know which genres in general interest him? (like if he enjoys TV shows with a certain genre, maybe connect that into books).
ReplyDeleteThough not helping the size problem, Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld has some great illustrations and it's a pretty good steampunk novel.
Also, I just finished I Hunt Killers" by Barry Lyga. Pure awesomeness. If you're okay with your son reading about serial killers. (a bit intimidated recommending this straight to a parent >_< but it really is an entertaining read!) That's the only other book (besides THG) that I think might appeal to a 15-year-old guy. Wait...they both have killing...O_O Well, "I Hunt Killers" has a MALE POV! Maybe easier to relate to.
Sorry for the long comment >_< Hope that helped somewhat!
No thank you, I look at it this way, my mom never restricted me when it came to reading, I wasn't about to go and do what I read about. I do the same with my son, I trust him and he knows whats real and what's not. Plus he plays Call of Duty soooo... I rather have him read more though.
DeleteHey! YAAAY School is starting!! Lucky you, get more reading time lol. I start school tomorrow, so I'll be glad if my reading times don't diminish into thin air! lol
ReplyDeleteSuggestions, suggestions... WELL, good thing I just finished an awesome YA book huh? It's called The Legion of Nothing by Jim Zoetewey, it's a Superhero book (I know, I know, this is sooo out of my genres, but it was great) I read this for a blog tour and my tour date is 8/25 I'll be doing a review & a giveaway for the tour, so before you go and buy that you just might get lucky and win the giveaway! Awesome right?
Also, of course, The Hunger Games trilogy is awesome, so I would suggest that. Dystopian, YA, low on the romance, high on the adrenalin! Another YA I just finished is City of Bones, again low on the romance, yada yada. lol. It's still great ^_^ If you don't restrict him on what kind of books to read, then for a more adult book but still awesome, I would suggest A Song Fire & Ice series by George R.R. Martin. You've most likely heard of it. There's a TV series out on HBO on it. Game of Thrones? *sigh* I absolutely loved season 1, so I decided to put a break on watching the TV series and read the books first. There's about 6 books in the series now the first being Game of Thrones. I'm about halfway through the first book, but it's amazing!

His biggest problem is keeping his attention and length of the book. I so far tried to get him to read The Hunger Games, he took it with him not this summer but a couple summers ago, he thought it sounded good but never did read it. He tried Harry Potter, loved the movies but couldn't get past the length of the books.
Deleteooh... hmm that's going to be a bit of a problem then.. What about mangas?? Have you tried those?
DeleteI was thinking of trying those, He loves Bleach and anime so figured maybe he might give those a try.
